If the cable is good, the next step would be check the speedomemter receiver in the rear wheel. If not properly seated when the wheel is reinstalled, this part will not allow the cable to spin. May work for awhile then stop.Vacuum petcocks suck. To get fuel into the oil gas has to get past the petcock. The petcock can leak 2 ways: not properly shutting off or having a diaphram issue and leaking fuel into the manifold thru the vacuum hose. "Best" fix is an earlier non-vacuum off-on-reserve petcock. Or rebuild or replace yours.

I have changed the needles, even swapped the floats, checked the ports for debris that might prevent the needle from seating, and it still leaks from the rear carb. I checked the seat with a magnifying lens and there were no burrs or varnish buildup.

On the highway it's fine, but get caught in one traffic jam in mid-summer, or an area of stop-light hell, and it won't be good if my fan's turning on was any indication.Also if the cable connectors at the battery have not been cleaned that also could cause electrical difficulties.
