I had the tv combination come up on the gamepad but no video on the TV. I did a hard reset to shut down the WiiU (press and hold the power button for 4 seconds or longer). After turning it back on, the gamepad was synced again, and a message came up on the TV telling me about the hard reset or something. Try that and see if it works.
I beat the game a few days ago and i am interested in starting the game again to record footage. You'd have to create a new user in the Wii U system for that, as the game doesn't have save files. You can, but you either have to use another account or delete your file on System Settings. There's no multiple save files for this game.
