You will also have to go to an Outpost and access your cache in order to go into your backpack to make the proper changes.
The .243 is fine for small deer and small game at the start. This should be your primary gun at the start as the softpoint rounds are free. All other ammunition costs money. The .270 you also get for free at the start is great for larger deer such as Whitetail, up to Moose and Bear I think.
