Dabs taste like sulphur.
Sounds like poorly done CRC. The only time I've experienced that burnt popcorn/sulfur taste is from very shitty shit crc wax. Typically a sugary consistency, almost white/very light yellow, smells like vick's vapor rub.

The intermediate way is a vacuum chamber and an electric griddle at a very low temp. And the caveman way is double boil it and pop the propane/butane bubbles. If you can't taste sulfur like rotten eggs or farts then it's fine probably, any butane will burn off as soon as it hits the banger, and it'll be okay. Take a tiny bit and dissolve it in some vinegar in a tiny dish. Then once it's pretty mixed up throw some pennies in the solution. If the pennies start having little blue specs show up after 10-20 minutes it means that there is sulfer in your wax.
